Canada Day 2010
- Thursday, July 1
Brilliant summer weather
attracted an increased
number of entries and a
larger-than-average crowd at
this year's Canada Day
parade in Elmsdale &
Enfield, including CCD's
first entry.
Featured on our float was
'The Dark Angel' an original
Model A Ford, just back from
a stint on location at a
local movie shoot. The
flat black coat of paint
applied for the film shoot
made a great surface for
Curtis to create his own
style of chalk drawings,
acknowledging all the
Radical Garage crew and
Canada's birthday too! |

CCD & TOOL TRUCK WELL RECEIVED
AT 28TH ANNUAL GOLDEN AGE SHOW...
|
|
|
June
5 & 6th - Wet weather
over the weekend couldn't
completely dampen the sprits
of classic car fans at the
28th Annual Show & Shine in
Truro, sponsored by the
Golden
Age Auto Club,
one of the largest and
oldest antique car clubs in
the Province.
Curtis
Custom Design & the Radical
unveiled the 'Ultimate
Tool Box' for the
first time at a Canadian car
show in the
AgriDome
indoor flea market.
The
Flea Market is always a
bustling part of the Golden
Age show, offering a wide
selection of crafts &
collectibles, as well as a
good representation of auto
parts, services and
products. This year
the colourful CCD/Radical
Garage display provided an
extra dash of colour and
action to the popular
market.
|
|
Approaching it's 30th year,
the Golden Age
Show &
Shine is one of
the largest & busiest shows
in Nova Scotia., attracting
people from all over the
Maritimes. The venue
at the Exhibition Grounds &
Truro Raceway offers a
sprawling site with plenty
of room for centre track
display, Car Corral sales,
indoor flea market, many
food vendors & canteens, and
lots of attractions for the
whole family.

The
Golden Age Show & Shine is a
popular event for collectors
and tinkerer's, and CCD's
display garnered a great
deal of attention from
attendees interested in
customizing & cool garage
gear; family and booth staff
were happy to be kept busy
with demos and inquiries
over the weekend.

CURTIS CUSTOM DESIGN OPENS!
'WINFIELD
WEEK' LAUNCHES RADICAL GARAGE IN NS...
|
|
|
|
April 5th to 11th, 2010
Car Customizer Curtis
MacLean officially
opened
Curtis Custom Design for business
in Nova Scotia with a week of
events revolving around
double workshops by
legendary Hot Rod Hall-of-Famer
Gene
Winfield,
an Open House, Auction and
more.
Fresh
from another Maritime
workshop in Moncton, New
Brunswick, Gene plunged
straight back into work with
a two-day paint blending
workshop at the start of the
week, took in our First
Annual Atlantic Classic Car
Auction & Open House, then
finished up with another
exhaustive two-day metal
fabrication workshop on the
weekend.
Activity outside the shop
during the weekend was just
as non-stop, with a steady
stream of visitors and
vintage vehicles
passing through our showroom
doors. Radical Garage
welcomed a wide range of old
friends and new fans of all
ages and walks of life.
Owner
Curtis MacLean was
kept busy conducting tours
and was especially pleased
to see the local political
arena well represented over
the week, along with
representatives from the
many local suppliers Curtis
Custom Design does business
with.
Winfield
Workshop - Paint Blending
- Gene Winfield is justly
famous for his blended paint techniques; unique
colurs and incredibly
smooth application.
Workshops
ran full days with a lunch
break and students were
expected to participate and
innovate. Day One
featured instructional
techniques and Day Two the
group worked on an actual
full vehicle paint job "The
Big Ugh".
The custom
paint treatment on this 1954
COE Big Job 1 ton Ford truck
was inspired by a
one-of-a-kind vehicle, on
display in the Radical
Garage Showroom during the
week, courtesy Roy Brown of
Halifax.
The resulting truck is
possibly the world's
flashiest car carrier!
Some of the
students got an unexpected
bonus on Day Two when Nova
Scotia's own homegrown stars
of TV & film,
The
Trailer Park Boys,
dropped by to tour the
showroom and shop. -

Classic
Car Auction & Grand Opening
Response to
calls for cars for our First
Annual Atlantic Classic Car
Auction was nearly
overwhelming and exceeded
our expectations. All
told by Auction Day on
Friday April 9th, over 40
classic cars and other
vintage items were
registered and ready for the
'auction block'.
A gratifying crowd showed up
to take in the Auction, but
the team from Absolute
Traffic Control ensured a
smooth
flow
of visitors and bidders
around Radical Garage during the auction hours.
Inside the
Showroom
Woody's Auctions,
assisted by Adessa and
Curtis Custom's staff,
ensured the cars moved on
and off the auction block at
top speed.
The crowd
seemed to appreciate the
depth of field represented
by classic cars, trucks,
motorcycles & other items,
and some lucky bidders went
home with their dream
cars...
In
the evening events dropped
to a more leisurely pace as
Grand Opening visitors
enjoyed refreshments and
exploring the Shop &
Showroom.

Winfield
Workshop - Metal Fabrication
Gene Winfield wrapped up our
Opening Week with another
two-day workshop in
fabrication and
customization, using tools
such as the English wheel,
wood hammer forms, bead
roller and sandbag.
Driven
by the mysterious currents
that inspire car customizers, the class
chopped the roof of a
1949
Plymouth Businessman's
Coupe, dropping it down
several inches and adding
the roof from an 1950 Dodge
Kingsway. This
workshop was an great
example of collaborative
effort as Gene guided the
group through their tasks
with a light hand, always
allowing for their own
innovation and inspiration.
